POLICE RAID THE FAMILY HOME — MILAN RIOT SUSPECT BEHIND BARS!

Wife under investigation, parents' house searched, computers seized — and a switched-off telephone fails to stop the police.

MILAN, OCTOBER 25 — The investigation into Milan's October 17 street violence has reached the family home.

Youssef Siher, 30, an Italian researcher of Moroccan origin, has been detained and transferred to prison. Prosecutors suspect him of operating the social-media network behind the October 17 Movement, whose demonstrations descended into violence.

THE WIFE. His 32-year-old wife, a cultural mediator of Lebanese origin, is also under investigation for alleged incitement to crime. She has not been arrested. Investigators believe the couple jointly administered the movement's Instagram and Telegram accounts.

THE TELEPHONE. Siher reportedly switched off his mobile phone. Police nevertheless located him through his wife's handset, finding him at an apartment near Milan's Corvetto district.

THE FAMILY HOME. Detectives searched his parents' residence in Mazzano, near Brescia, seizing computers, electronic devices and other material considered relevant to the investigation.

THE ONLINE NETWORK. The movement's Instagram page reportedly attracted more than 48,000 followers, while its Telegram discussion group approached 9,500 members.

THE CHARGES. Prosecutors are examining alleged incitement to crime with terrorist intent, terrorism-related offences and organized violence at public demonstrations. Milan prosecutor Francesca Crupi is expected to request judicial confirmation of Siher's detention on Monday.

THE WIDER CRACKDOWN. More than 150 police searches were carried out across Milan, Monza and other Italian cities. Investigators also uncovered WhatsApp messages allegedly discussing attacks on police officers, theft of weapons and arson.

Saturday's nationwide security operation produced nine arrests, 87 criminal complaints and 4,292 identity checks. Another 371 people were taken to police stations, including 110 minors.

The central question now is whether investigators have uncovered the organizers of a coordinated violent network — or whether the prosecution's allegations will prove broader than the evidence.

For now, the police have the devices, the suspect is in custody, and the courts have yet to decide.

THE GENOA CONNECTION. In a development reported Sunday evening, Genoa prosecutors are examining possible contacts between Siher and suspects in a separate investigation into alleged Hamas financing through charitable associations. That inquiry led to seven arrests in December 2025, including Palestinian association leader Mohammad Hannoun. Investigators are also examining a possible connection between the October 17 Movement and pro-Russian hackers known as NoName, according to RaiNews. Neither connection has been publicly established. The questions are serious. The answers remain to be proved.
